Bogdan and I are leaving for Germany tomorrow. In the midst of getting a few last things done today I received my March Birchbox. I've been thinking of doing unboxing posts for a while now. I wish I had started months ago. Now, I'm not sure how much longer we'll be around to be getting subscription boxes but I figure in the meantime it can't hurt to share the excitement with anyone interested for however long it lasts.

I'm usually pretty excited when my box comes. I'm even excited when Bog's box comes! It's like getting a little present every month. Who doesn't love that?

This month's box was really pretty. The design of the box is always a nice touch. I try to repurpose all the boxes too, so it's especially nice for me. This was my first time taking pictures as I opened the box. It ended up taking a bit longer than usual, which really heightened the excitement of the moment!

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser

I haven't used this before but I'm a really big fan of Kiehl's Lip Balm #1. I swear by it. That makes me sort of biased toward trusting the brand but I have yet to test that theory. I guess this is my chance. As always, will report back my findings.

Parlor Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray

I'm pretty skeptical. Moisturizing + sea salt aren't usually presented in the same proposition. Still, maybe they've figured out the secret formula. We will see.

Wilma Schumann European Skin Care Hydrating Collagen Eye Pads

How very apropos that I would receive a collagen eye mask made by a German company the day before I fly to Germany. I'll be taking these with me to soothe what are sure to be very tired eyes.

TrèStiQue Color & Smudge Shadow Crayon in Aspen Pine

Generally I don't wear eyeshadow. I might wear it a few times a year and when I do it's always always matte. The reason is that most eyeshadows I come across are iridescent (or sparkly, glittery, shiny, shimmery, lustrous, opalescent, etc etc). As a result, I probably only own one eyeshadow palette. Matte is a necessity because I have hooded eyes. If I wear any kind of light reflecting shadow, my eyelids look swollen and just bad. I'm going to try this eyeshadow crayon for you, my dear readers. For you and for science and that's as far as it goes.

I'm pretty certain I know how this is going to end so any of my friends reading this, this eyeshadow is up for grabs.

On that note....can make-up companies please get with the program and make matte eyeshadow more readily available?

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil

An oil based primer?? Whaaaaat?

I'm really intrigued. How can a primer be oil based? How would it stick to skin and provide a strong enough foundation for make-up to be layered over without just sliding off the face? So many questions. Will let you know how this goes.

Overall Impression

Can’t say this is my favourite box ever. The primer oil and collagen eye mask is interesting but everything else is sort of blah. I guess we’ll see when I try it all.

For now, I’m going to get back to preparing for Germany and I’m doing my very best to get a post out on beauty on the fly before I leave.
